Ok, so how many times have you been up at some ungodly hour, with a wicked case of the munchies? And once upon a time, when commercials used to rule the airwaves, you would be forced to watch a fast food commercial, as you writhed back, and forth, with hunger pangs.
But every now, and again, you would get an infomercial that would pop up for ten, or even twenty, minutes at times. And some of these would be centered on cooking; and without fail, at some point in the program, the person talking would bring out a roast. When that roast would come out, I would lose my mind.
It never dawned on me, “Hey moron, how about you learn how to cook a roast?” So I did! And now, whenever I want a roast, it’s waiting for me to dig into it about 2 hours later. After today, you’ll be able to do the same. Enjoy . . . ROSEMARY AND GARLIC ROAST BEEF
One of my favorite dishes is meatballs and spaghetti with marinara sauce. You can go to several high-end Italian restaurants in New York, where I live, and pay a small fortune for it – but I’m on a budget kick these days.
Funny enough, I don’t have to be at this point in my life. The money is coming in steadily for the first time in my life, and all of a sudden I’m thinking of ways to save as much of it as possible. What the heck? Maybe I’ve matured financially? Maybe I just got tired of seeing an empty fridge when the money did run out – I think that’s more of what it’s about than anything else.
With that being said, I came across a recipe on one of my favorite blogs, Budgetbytes.com, where my homegirl Beth, put together this dish that kicks major ass. She calls it “skillet meatballs and marinara.” Hey, I don’t care what she calls, the fact is she cooked up another winner, that’s for sure.
I put this dish together with Turkey sausage instead of pork sausage, and it tasted absolutely ri-donk-ulous! That’s a technical term by the way. What’s even more amazing is that you can hammer out six servings from her recipe, and it only costs you $10. Yes, you read that right the first time.
In actuality, it will cost you less than ten bucks, but I’m sure, like myself, you will find a way to spend the change on something at the register (I bought two bags of plaintain chips – whoo hoo!!) So check out the recipe, and let me know what you think.
On a whole other note, let me squeeze in an opportunity to talk about my favorite, and so far, only, sponsor, the Tooth Implant Pros. These dudes are blowing up! In my last post I wrote that they had offices in New York City, Pittsburgh, and Washington DC. I now learned that they are in the process of opening up an office in Colorado Springs as well.
Colorado is where I’m taking my next vacation. It’s where I’m going to partake in some of the recreational activities they have going on over there, if you get my drift. Well, these guys are already making it happen over with a new dental implants partner.
So if you are in the market for implants, and you live next to, or even in, Colorado Springs, then you have a few choices. You can search them out first using the phrase, “Most Affordable Dental Implants In Colorado Springs CO.” You can call them at 719-299-3564; or you can click the link above, and do both at the same time – thew choice is all yours!
One of the challenges I get from my friends who acknowledge me as a foodie, is that I am a snob who can afford to eat well. First off, I take offense to being called a snob . . . well, not really. I mean, hey, if you like to eat crappy tasting food, that’s on you. I like to eat good – whether I have money or I don’t have money.
I’m a freelance writer, which means there are months where the eating is good. It also means there are whole seasons where I’m barely able to scratch a living out. I’m not complaining, that’s the life I chose. But when things are going well, you cannot fault me for living high off the hog.
I like to eat, and because I like to eat I also put in a massive amount of time at the gym, and on the streets of Brooklyn where I live. I run – a lot! The way I eat, I guess I have to; but here in Brooklyn they have a few pizzerias that are out of this world. I have been known to run for two hours, and walk into one of these eateries, sweat dripping down my face, smelling like a baby bear, and asking the owner for three slices of his best stuff.
I’ve done this on several occasions, and I get a few weird looks, but it’s my life. Well, for splurging like that I can easily spend $20. Twenty bucks on an afternoon snack – what the heck? Here’s the thing; when I’m in my broke phase, which happens less now, but still manages to find it’s way into my life at least once a year, I will not frequent these quaint eateries.
Instead I make food at my home, that tastes pretty close to the real thing. One of my favorite dishes I put together, I just so happened to find at one of my favorite blogs as well – the brokeassgourmet.com. For half the price I can eat even more slices of my favorite pizza, and feel even less guilty about it – because I got to save some money! Whoo hoo!
So, if you’re in a tight spot, and money isn’t flowing into your coffers, then you need to become resourceful, instead of focusing on your lack of resources. Head over to one of the many blogs, like the brokeassgourmet.com, and find a way to eat well, without having to pay a king’s ransom for it.
Before I wrap up this post, let me talk to you a little about my friends over at Tooth Implant Pros. I know this may seem like it’s from left field, and it is, but when these guys are helping to pay to keep the lights on, the least you can do is shout them out every now and again, right?
The Tooth Implant Pros started out as an agreement between an online marketing team and an implant dentist back in 2013. Since then, they have grown into a network of implant specialists looking for more implant patients. The Pros are the dentist themselves; trained specialists, usually Prosthodontists, who are looking to take on more new cases.
The guys behind the Tooth Implant Pros are online geeks, who use wacky online, Matrix-coding stuff to rank their websites on page one of search for the terms that generate patients looking specifically for dental implants. Together they service the city the dentist works out of, and everyone wins.
What started out in Queens NY, has now spread to Brooklyn; with a new location opening up in Manhattan very soon I hear. They have also opened up locations in Pittsburgh and Colorado Springs. They have now opened up a location in Washington DC as well. So if you are looking for affordable dental implants in Washington DC, then call 202-759-8572.
Believe me, these guys will take care of you. And whomever they decide to partner up with, believe me, they have been vetted and are the real deal. Give them a call and set up your appointment today.
I came across an article in a magazine that said a person with no teeth in their mouth, will have a shortened life. I wondered how that was when my grandmother, who never had teeth, wound up living to age 89. How did she live that long with no teeth? I mean, as far back as I could remember she had no teeth. If that’s the case how did she make it another twenty-five years?
Apparently, it was because of the dentures. The dentures prolonged her life, but they also helped to deteriorate her jawbone. See, according to this article, with no teeth in place, the jawbone starts to atrophy. This is why missing teeth need to be addressed as soon as possible. Even missing one tooth will cause your teeth to start shifting. This shift will, literally, begin deterioration in your jawbone. It isn’t something that happens right away. It’s a slow, subtle process – but it happens, and the problem is, that it always happens.
So if you want to be able to chow down on whatever you want to chow down on, you need to make sure that your teeth are up to code. The pressure of your bite is what helps grind down your food into mush. see, most people in America today do not properly chew their food. Because they swallow their food almost intact, their body isn’t able to digest it properly. When food isn’t properly digested, the nutrients are extracted from the food. This means you can eat a lot of food, and be malnourished. It happens every day in the United States.
If you aren’t able to chew properly due to missing teeth, then cosmetic dentistry gives you several options to choose from. The option I want to talk about today are implants. Dental implants are the best option when it comes to replacing a tooth. If you live in Pittsburgh, or near Pittsburgh, then you are going to want to call 412-620-6076, or search the phrase, best dental implants in Pittsburgh, to find out more about the packages they have available.
I love to eat, and I can’t imagine not being able to enjoy my favorite meals, If you love food as much as I do, and are experiencing issues with your teeth, call your local cosmetic dentist today. Get it fixed, be happy, and get back to chowing down.
I like to eat food. Yeah, I said it. It’s probably why I’m a few pounds overweight as of the writing of this post. I’m not going to sit here, and lie about it. I like to eat. I like to eat so much, I was forced to figure out a better way of eating to avoid gaining a massive amount of weight.
Unfortunately, cheap, processed food is available en masse. It’s easy to spend $100 on cheap groceries, and come home with food that will last for a week. If you spend that same money on quality food, it may last three or four days at the most. I know it sucks, but it is the way it is.
Here’s the thing though, if you have no teeth, or you’re missing enough teeth so that eating becomes difficult, than it doesn’t matter what kind of food you’re eating – you won’t be able to process your food the way nature intended; and this could lead to health problems down the line.
My father, who I loved dearly, was a great man . . . with poor dental habits. Because he did not place much value on his oral health, he suffered from a number of dental issues; one of them being missing teeth. He lost two teeth in the back of his mouth, on either side of his mouth, and over time, because these teeth were no longer in place, his other teeth began to shift.
Once this shift started taking place, he started to have food stay stuck in his mouth. Who knows how long that food would stay there before it was dislodged by other food later on down the line. I know, sounds pretty gross, right? Well, it was. The thing is, even if he had flossed regularly it would not have mattered all that much. Sure his breath might have been a lot easier to deal with, but his health would have still taken a toll.
According to dental studies, without all your teeth in place, functioning properly, you position yourself to cut your normal lifespan down by as much as ten years. I don’t know about you, but life seems like it’s passing by awfully quickly these days. I want as many days on this earth as I can get before it’s my time to check out. This is why dental devices like dentures, crowns, and bridges were created.
Dentists understood that a mouth of healthy teeth, working together to break down food into mush the body can use to nourish itself, is vital to one’s long-term health. One of the new procedures dentists are using to help people create that for people is what’s known as a dental implant.
If I had known about dental implants when my father was alive, I would have had him sign up for some – that’s for sure! They are amazing, and I don’t use that term lightly. What a dentist does is drill into your jawbone, and implants a metal device into the bone. I know, this must sound crazy to you, but it’s real.
The device, over the course of time, merges with the bone, and becomes a part of your mouth. Later on the dentist goes back in, opens the gum line again, finds the implant, and places what’s known as an abutment into the implant. The abutment is what connects the implant to the crown. The crown is cemented on top of the abutment – and this is, basically, your new tooth.
Interestingly enough, these implants work just as well as a real tooth. You can do just about anything, and everything, you would do with a real tooth, with an implant. Living in Brooklyn at the time, my father would have had a hard time figuring out who to call to make that happen. There was not much information on implants at the time, and the internet was in it’s infancy. Today however, there is an overabundance of information online today, and although there are many dentists that offer implants, I would have had my father call the Tooth Implant Pros of Brooklyn.
This is a network of cosmetic dentists that offer specialized cosmetic services, dental implants being one of them. When you call them up, the number will most likely be forwarded to one of the dentists that represent them for Brooklyn NY. They have a representative in Queens, with offices looking to open up in other major cities around the country as well.
If an implant is what you think you need, then set up the free examination they offer. Without a full mouth of teeth, you are not going to be able to set there, and with peace of mind, chow down on some of the great recipes we will be offering here on this site.
Thanks for taking the time to come check out my blog on healthy recipes anyone can put together. Unfortunately, there is a belief that many Americans have been “spoon-fed,” about good taking a long time to put together. Because of this, “fast food” has become the norm. When I write “fast food,” I don’t just mean the franchises. I mean fast food like microwave dinners, already-prepared meats in packages, already-cooked meats in cans, and on and on. Anything we can get our hands on and eat within a few minutes of deciding to is what I consider to be fast food.
If you would have brought up that idea to people fifty years ago, they would have looked at you strange. Fast food was something that was seen as “special.” On Fridays, and/or Saturdays, it was customary for Dad to come home with burgers for the family. Today, we can see people eating fast food from franchises as many as three to four times a week! The rest of the time, fast foods like microwaveable dinners and pre-packaged meals are what’s being eaten; so for all intents and purposes – people are eating fast food almost all the time!
This is sad, and totally unhealthy. Having a good, nutritious meal does not have to a long time to put together. My hope with this site is to be able to show how to do just that. Some of these meals will be prepared, others cooked. Some will take a few minutes to put together for those on the run, and others will take an hour, or more, for the food purists. Whatever the case, you can be sure that you will most likely find what you are looking for here. Once again, thanks for showing up, and I hope to keep seeing you again and again.
